A Little About Short Tailed Opossums

Looking for another exotic pet with minimum upkeep?  These are another perfect pet for you.  STO (Mini Brazilian Short Tail Opossum or Monodelphis Domestica), are recommended for all ages due to their friendly nature and easy care.  STO's are a pouch-less marsupial that are native to Brazil.  STO's get about the size of a large gerbil and live 4-6 years. They are nocturnal but will play with you during the day. They have a prehensile tail and can play dead when scared.  STO do not like to have cage mates and will fight and become stressed when near another one. They usually do best in a large aquarium with a wheel and nest box. They love the wheel and also climbing. They usually don't mind being held and will sit on your shoulder and in your pocket and have great personalities.

When feeding your STO make sure you give them a good variety of fruits/veggies/protein along with a good source of water.  Protein is recommended every day along with fruits and veggies every few days or a little every day. You may also give them a few insects once to twice a week as a protein source. STO can dehydrate easily so make sure their bottle is always full.

All these may be fed in baby food form or fresh.
